Georgia Literacy Happens Everywhere: The Magic of Multimodal Content

LIVE WEBINAR

Thursday, June 25
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM ET

Literacy happens everywhere; not just in ELA class, and not just with a book.

As districts in Georgia continue to navigate evolving literacy expectations and instructional priorities, educators have an opportunity to rethink how literacy is supported across every classroom and content area.

Join Discovery Education and a panel of Georgia educators for an engaging discussion on leveraging a multi-literacy approach to enrich ELA instruction and extend literacy learning into science, social studies, and beyond. Using the 5 Pillars of Literacy as a framework, our panelists will share practical strategies, real-world examples, and lessons learned from supporting literacy development through imagery, video, audio, and other multimodal resources.

Here’s what we’ll explore:

  • Multi-Modal Content: Learn how to integrate diverse text modes into your teaching to enhance literacy across all subjects.
  • SOS Strategies and Tools: Explore easy-to-implement strategies and tools that make literacy and digital engagement seamless and impactful.
  • Integrating Literacy with Science and Social Studies Standards: Explore how the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Science and Social Studies can be supported through literacy-rich instructional practices, helping students build content knowledge while strengthening critical literacy skills.
  • Supporting All Georgia Learners: Gain insights into methods for supporting all Georgia students, with a particular focus on English Language Learners (ELL), Exceptional Student Education (ESE), and students requiring Dyslexia support.
  • Background Builders: Understand the critical role background knowledge plays in literacy and reading comprehension, and see how Background Builders help bridge experience gaps so all students can engage more deeply with content.
